I am of the firm opinion that one of the coolest parties a person can throw, and if one plays their card right, memorable, is the Halloween party. Heck one doesn’t even need the lucky draw of a straight flush to make this party come off right. The fun is ready made!
Setting the mood with ghoulish sound effects and fun Halloween music. Dim lighting and a house strewn with images of ghosts, skeletons, witches and macabre creatures. Preparing food that resemble body parts of humans like fingers, ears, heart, eyeballs, bones, skulls, nose and tongue, using spooky and gross name for your recipes. Throwing a party for a holiday that screams (it is Halloween after all) for over-the-top decorative design, with everyone in costume…it seems to me that the party is almost handed to everyone on a silver platter.
Just think about how much fun you can have with the preparation and decoration alone. There are so many neat little elements available that can set the mood. Check out this new assortment of wine & party accessories from Wine Enthusiast.

Bats About ‘U’ Etched Tumblers (Set of 2)
The Halloween spirit soars with every sip! That’s because we all share something in common with our little winged friends—we’re batty about “the red stuff”. Wine, that is! These mouth-blown tumblers feature a bevy of etched bats, the perfect tribute for wine lovers who savor Allhallows Eve. Specially shaped to bring out the full flavor and bouquet of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and other red wines. Also perfect for any other potion you wish to serve, punch to pop! From of our best-selling line of holiday-themed U glasses. Lead-free crystal collectibles available only at Wine Enthusiast. Dishwasher safe. $19.95 $14.99

Skull Swizzle Sticks (Set of 12)
The headiest way to cause a stir! It’s not an exciting Halloween cocktail till you add the finishing touch—a swizzle stick topped with a grinning skull. How many stirrers make serving Devil’s Punch a dead-on delight or Black Martinis a monster good time? Only these! Hand-painted resin skulls with clear beverage-safe sticks. Hand wash. $19.95
Halloween falls on a Saturday this year so there are no excuses, and since it is Halloween, there will be no remorse! Find the best Halloween coupons here, and scare up a good time!

Last night I hit the streets with Henry in his stroller for our three mile evening walk. I try to mix up our route slightly each night to keep the boredom factor down. We live on the east side of Los Angeles, and ended up at Western and Los Feliz Avenue. What perchance do you think that I saw here? Well my friends, it was a Baskin Robbins that I hadn’t previously been aware of!
I made a mental note to tell my wife when I got home, we both LOVE ice cream! Luckily we don’t BINGE per say but we did get a little carried away while Sara was pregnant. It doesn’t help that we both share an affection for Baskin Robbins that is rooted in joyful childhood memories. I distinctly remember more than once, both of us laying in a bed and dreamily discussing our favorite things from the land of 31 Flavors.
Here are some of my favorite sweet treats from Baskin Robbins:

Clown Cone
Who knew that an ice cream cone turned upside down could be so much fun? Wow truer words have rarely been spoken. Many was the time that I stared longingly at the Clown Cone within the Baskin Robbins case as a child, and I have retained that fascination into adulthood. So much so, that my frequent rejoinder upon hearing that someone is heading to Baskin Robbbins is “You going for a clown cone?”

Peanut Butter Banana Waffle Bowl Sundae
Admittedly this one is not for amateurs, nor is it for someone who isn’t serious about a true ice cream indulgence. I might only go for one of these over-the-top waffle bowl sundaes one or twice a year, but boy do I love it every time I do. Two scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream and banana slices. It’s then topped with Reese ’s Peanut Butter sauce and chopped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and served in a freshly baked waffle bowl. My God.

Grasshopper Pie
Now it is my firm opinion that if you receive an ice cream cake or pie for your birthday, you will truly feel like you rule the world. I don’t think it really matters what ice cream flavor or style of cake is your favorite, they all achieve the same effect. The Grasshopper Pie is both the favorite of myself and my wife. Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream topped off with a fudge lattice design and loads of whipped cream in an Oreo Cookie pie crust. I dream of this every year, but rarely have I actually received it. I like to believe that it’s because I am a complicated creature, and that no one really understands me.
Speaking of birthdays…did you know that you can receive free ice cream and more at Baskin Robbins for your birthday? That’s right, join the Birthday Club and receive a free scoop! This is addition to special Baskin Robbins coupons, deals, and sneak peaks at new flavors and treats!

When I’m shopping for a gift for someone that I really care about, I get somewhat obsessive trying to find that perfect idea. What I mean is, that I will try to find an item that the person will of course appreciate but may never buy for themselves. I’m speaking of the left-of-center here. Father’s Day is just a few days away and I’ve come to the conclusion that gifts for this occasion have become so standardized. I spoke last week how I would really appreciate a gift of a monthly beer of the month. I still think this is a great idea, but how about beer brewing equipment so your father could make his own? I know several people who have pursued this hobby as of late, and the all seem to really enjoy it. However, I know even more people who have mused out loud to me, about how it’s a hobby they would like to pursue. Do you catch my drift here? This is a gift idea that your dad would really like, yet would not pursue without a little kick start! Perfect!
There is a rising popularity and recognition of beer brewing among American men and this has brought about a boom in the beer making industry. There are a lot of father’s that love to drink beer, they often have their own brand or type of beer they like, but giving your father a six pack is not really a personal gift at all. Most father’s like some time on their own after a long day of work and that is one of the reasons brewing your own beer has become so popular the last ten years. And another good reason most fathers will like beer brewing equipment as personalized gifts is that it also saves them money in the end. And you will save money by taking advantage of our beer and wine hobby coupons for the Beer and Wine Hobbyist or check out these wine coupons.

Out of curiosity and my desire to appear a cultured man of the world I decided to do a little research on wine, and wine trends for 2009.
I’m not one to drop several hundred dollars on a single bottle, not even if I was in a position to do so. I was interested in learning what good affordable bottles were available this year. This being my motive, I was delighted to immediately run across the advice of Belinda Chang wine director of The Modern in New York’s Museum of Modern Art. She tells us that “There is a wine for everyone, every place and every time…There is so much high quality wine being made in every corner of the world that it is not necessary to break out the Black Amex for a compelling bottle.”
Yes! My thinking exactly! Thank you Ms. Chang for your affirmations of what I was already thinking!
You see, these days the trends skew towards affordability and explorations of the left-of-center and local vintages. Ordering or serving super expensive wines – also known as second mortgage wines because of their lofty price – is a trend that is past its prime. Affordable wines can be just as impressive, if not more so, as pricey wines. Have the notion that locally produced wine isn’t going to be as exquisite as wines from Italy or France? Think again. More and more wineries from across the world are producing wines of note. This is true of Australia, Chile and right here in the United States. I’m sure many of us have been hearing for years how wines from California have truly come of age. Yes it appears the world has come down: if you want to impress, don’t go with the tried or true. Explore, be adventurous, try new things and hunt for a good bargain in the process…these are the wine trends of 2009.
In fact, I have what I believe to be a really good idea. Going with the spirit of exploration for affordable prices why not try a wine club or a mixed tasting package? We have found some amazing deals that would enable you to sample all sorts of varieties. Wow sounds like complete heaven to me. Come check out all of online wine discounts and coupons.
Check out the Mixed Tasting Pack from MyWinesDirect.com featured above. Discover hidden gems from small family vineyards around the world. This assortment is carefully selected to give you a range of varietals and styles, including a Chilean Pinot Noir, a California Chardonnay and Cabernet and an Australian Red Blend plus two more California favorites.
Let the tasting begin!
