Holiday Movies: Hilarious Family Time

Food and laughter bring the family together like nothing else. My parents, brother, and I are a family full of inside jokes. We’re really comfortable with one another, and we always love to tease one another. Nobody’s ever offended, and we know that everything said is in good fun. We can be pretty lazy, so some of our best times have involved sitting on the couch and having a good laugh (at each other’s expense). The “funny factor” takes family bonding to a whole new level.

Now that the stress of shopping is winding down, you’re probably ready to relax, be merry, and have a good time. I’m definitely ready for a little laughter with my Blu-ray player and HDTV.

Here are some great movies to get you started:

Elf: I saw Elf for the first time when I was in high school. After a big exam, our teachers would play movies for us in class. It was pretty awesome and probably a huge waste of my parents’ tuition money. In any case, the movie’s rated PG, so the family can watch it together. And adults, don’t worry, you won’t be bored. Will Ferrell is hilarious.

Bad Santa: I actually watched Bad Santa in my high school art class… in the middle of March… a week before a national standardized art history test. The movie’s a little bit less PG than Elf, so you definitely want to wait until your kids are a little older to watch it with them. In fact, you probably don’t want to watch this movie with your kids at all. As close as I am with my parents, I don’t think I ever want to watch Bad Santa with them. Now that I think about it, I might have watched it with my family a few years ago. If I did, I regret and will never repeat the experience.
